The examples in this pattern have been crocheted using DK yarn (USA Light worsted), great weight for a new baby, (aran weight yarn may also be used, and will result in a thicker, larger blanket).

Also shown Peter Pan DK 50g x 8 Balls
Other yarn recomendations: Stylecraft Special DK for babies, Paintbox DK, in fact most other soft DK yarns of a similar weight may be used.
